Speeding into the new season...

Sunday, February 06, 2011
Literally speeding folks.  I got my first ticket in my whole 26 years during this offseason and I wasn't happy about it. And no I'm not kidding. I had never so much as been pulled over and my insurance was spotless.  So anyway it got me thinking about insurance and since I care about you all, I figured you should check this out too.

Questions To Ask When Shopping For Cheap Car Insurance

When searching for cheap car insurance, it is essential that you do your research, comparison shop, and ask the right questions. By doing do, it will help you locate the cheapest possible insurance that includes the necessary coverage. Below are a few of the questions you should ask when searching for cheap car insurance:

What are my vehicle coverage choices? It is essential that you understand each type of coverage offered to make sure you get the right coverage and you are not buying excess coverage. The three main types are Liability, Comprehensive, and Collision coverage. You can buy specific amounts of coverage. Most experts recommend $1,000,000 liability. Also, if you have a low valued car, you may not need collision.

Can I get any discount incentives? It is important to ask what discount incentives the provider offers to reduce your costs such as: low mileage discount, added safety features discount, anti-theft device discount, good grade discount, insuring multiple vehicles discount, fuel efficient vehicle discount, discount for completing a driver safety program, age discount, and much more.

How does the insurance provider set its rates? Insurance providers consider a number of factors when setting a policy rate such as: driving record, credit history, marital status, age, gender, type of employment, and type of car. As well, ask how far back they check your driving record. You should also ask about your deductible options. The higher deductible you pay the less you will pay each month for your policy.

What are the policy exclusions? It is important to know about any policy limitations so that you are aware of situations where you will not be covered. As well, you will know if you have to buy supplementary coverage. Exclusions will vary from provider to provider.

When buying car insurance, it is important to be well-informed so that you can get the best rate and the appropriate coverage. Before you sign the agreement, make sure you read the contract, including the fine details. By doing so, you will increase your chances of getting a cheap car insurance policy.

So choose wisely friends. And watch your speed. ;)

Check back for some updates soon.

Hall of Fame: second class and worthy reads on Twitter...

Sunday, June 27, 2010
Hey gang! I was Tweeting today because the race was boring because there was so much to talk about, and I got to thinking about the second class that's going to be inducted into the Nascar Hall of Fame pretty soon.  And you know me, undercover phsycic, I made some predictions! ... With a few extras for back-up, and because I can't just pick five!

Here we go...

I'll start with my definites, which are David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip. Which leaves one spot and so, so many more candidates. In my mind, that leaves Ned Jarrett, Lee Petty, Dale Inman and Benny Parsons as possible fifth entries.  With the late exception of the Wood Brothers... which would be sweet if we could induct them together... I actually think it would be fitting, and much easier on people voting.  I think Benny can wait a year or two, mainly because he only has one championship.  But in my mind, he's in, just not right now.

So we have two champions who are fathers of champions and a crew chief who helped make the king, The King. Not to mention his championship with Terry Labonte.

Tough call.

I'm going to go with Ned Jarrett though. Followed ever so closely by Inman.  Jarrett's championships (2), in the short amount of time he won them (his career only lasted about 12 years, which compared to Petty and Waltrip was short) puts him over the edge for me.  Also added into that is his announcing career, being on of the most well-spoken commentators, driver or otherwise, to call a race cements it for me.

So my final picks are:

1. David Pearson
2. Cale Yarborough
3. Bobby Allison
4. Darrell Waltrip
5. Ned Jarrett

So! What do you think?  And don't be scared, I was to see some of your picks. Get to it!

Also, I'm starting a new thing where I post some people who are completely worth following on Twitter.  We'll start with the obvious: Me, Meme and Trish.  And for today we'll go with reporters Marty Smith, Jayski and Jeff Gluck who are my favs for news. That's it for now, but I'll post more next time.  Follow us!

Risk vs. Reward

Sunday, May 16, 2010
This is a mid-race post.  I had all these thoughts going through my head thinking about things I would blog about, and I thought, "Too much info, not enough energy to keep it together. I'll blog now."  So here we are.

If you're following me on Twitter, you know that there is constant Sunday conversation about Dale Jr. and the success, or lack thereof, depending on what week it is, of his team.  Today, I think, is one of the prime examples of why this Lance McGrew/Dale Jr. thing isn't working.  It's not because Lance isn't good, and it's not because Junior isn't good.  It's because they aren't good together.  Sure, they get along most of the time, and they put on a good show sometimes, but down to it's core, this driver/crew chief union isn't working.  There are things that are said on the radio that make you wonder if they've ever met before.  Sometimes, Junior hasn't been told how many tires he's going to take before he hits pit road.  Huge disconnects.

But it's not all the crew chief.  Dale Jr. has an attitude problem that is in his blood.  It doesn't mean it's okay, it's just that it's who he is inherently.  He knows he is what is going to make that car run well, and when he feels that he isn't being listened to, he loses it.  He will completely shut down.  He needs to change that to an extent, but he also needs someone who understands and can work with that. Tony Jr. would get pissy and shut down as well, and Lance can't seem to handle it.  So what is the bottom line here?

We know, and I don't care what the haters say, that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. can drive a race car.  This is evident everytime he gets into one that is set up the way he needs it.  Lance McGrew can make great decisions at a Crew Chief.  But a year into it, this set up isn't working.  So the dilemma then becomes, what can be done?

Here is why this is a dilemma in the first place: Even with how rocky this season has been, they are still contenders to make The Chase.  Even not being at their best, they are hanging in there with the best.  Think about that.  What could happen if they actually really got going?  It's possible that at some point this season, while hanging in or around the top 12, that they click and then they could really kick some ass.

But let's say they don't click, they make The Chase anyway and finish 12th.  In a year and a half of working together, that would show progress, am I wrong?

Or does Mr. Hendrick make a change now, hoping that whoever he brings in next is the one who can reign in Junior and turn him into the champion that we all know he can be?  And is that reasonable?  Would that team not deserve the chance to gel and maybe not make The Chase because of their "newness"?

Do you see the issues here?  Expectations are so high for Dale Jr. and this team that no one would allow a new guy to come in and get comfortable, much like McGrew who isn't even a full year into the job, before they start judging.

Is this a lose/lose?  Because thinking that someone new can come in and win immediatley is kind of nuts. What is not nuts is to think that Dale Jr. and McGrew could finally click a year into their partnership... even if we know, or feel, that it's not working right now.

So, let's all put on our owner hats.  What do you do here?  How to you face this dilemma?

Me?  I give them until the end of July.  If things stay the same through July, then I make a change and tell Mark Martin that I'm sorry, but I know he's not going to be around for a while, and the cost of having Junior run bad is much more important than he and his Crew Chief's relationship and I'm taking the CC.  Alan Gustafson could work, and he would be my pick in July.  Mark Martin is racing for another year full time at most, Junior has 15 to 20 years left and lot more hanging on his career at this time.  That would give Dale Jr. and Alan a few months to hang in the top 12 and see if they can make The Chase and do something with it, build from there and see if they can make a run in 2011.

It's always Jimmie, Jimmie, Jimmie...

Tuesday, April 20, 2010
That's all it is folks.  Unless it's Monday, of course, because then it's the Denny show.  I wouldn't know much about these races, however, because I'm one of the poor suckers who has to go to work on Monday, rain or no rain.  Although I'll be staging a protest if the race is rained out this weekend.  I just can't miss A) Another race and B) 'Dega.  It just can't happen.

I've been impressed with Denny through this whole knee debacle, although I was a bit surpised he stayed in the car his first whole race back.  Point proven, your tough.  But he would have looked a little silly if he'd gotten hit just the right way while he was running one lap down to show he's a super-duper tough man.

Jimmie continues to either win or run ridiculously well.  I almost wonder if we don't look at racing being good or not dependent on whether Jimmie wins.  Even as someone who is an HMS supporter, I'm over it.  Someone new needs to take over winning these things or people are going to tune out.  It's not like everyone tuning in this week to see if anyone can beat Jimmie.  They simple don't care when he's winning the way he has been.  And let's not even talk about the bonus points the dude has racked up for the Chase already.  And now HMS has all four cars in the top ten.  Jeez.  Although this Jimmie v. Jeff development is nice.

And that other HMS guy?  Well, let's just say he's improving.  Still not where he needs to be but some could say lightyears away from where he has been.  And the beard's gone.

And then Mark Martin just keeps on keepin' on.  And he will continue to do that way back 2011...

I know a lot of us talking on Twitter about the Kahne move to Hendrick and our first thougths when we heard.  Junior fan's all over the place thought Kahne would be replacing Junior.  And you know the sport and Junior are in a really weird place when his fan go, "OMG, they replaced the most popular, money making guy this sport has ever seen even though he's running way better than he ever has."  I'm telling you people, we're not in Kansas anymore in NASCAR.  It's a weird day when we're worried about Dale Jr's job security.  Although let's be real.  He's not going anywhere.

Okay, folks.  That's it for me tonight.  I'm really going to try to be back to normal.  I know, same story, different verse.  But I'm trying! And I miss you guys!!

Don't forget to follow Me and the gang on Twitter!

Have a good one.

Back from the abiss...

Thursday, October 22, 2009
Hello out there! It's me! I received a comment from an old friend today and thought, "My lord, if Harold is worried about me, it's time to put my blogging hat back on."

I'm not going to lie and say life isn't nuts. I'm working all of the time, and going to school again full time. Not a lot of free time, but I miss this place! I miss the readers, and well, I miss fun racing.

This obviously hasn't been one of my favorite seasons, and the racing, only at times, has been great. It looks as if Jimmie Johnson is well on his way to his fourth consecutive championship, and it's just hard to think of witty things to write about here when we're experiencing groundhog year.

Juan Pablo Montoya has been a nice surprises this year, especially with the team he's with. Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. missed The Chase. Junior must have kicked puppies this offseason to have the luck he's had this year and Kyle's driving style (while good) caught up with him. Go or blow doesn't win championships, but he's fun to watch and, yes, I felt bad for him when he had to get out of the car. There, I said it.

But I haven't been completely underground these last few months. I've been voicing my opinions, sass and all, over at Twitter. Meme is even there! So, while I may not update over here as much as you (or I) want, I'm inviting everyone to head over to Twitter and follow me, Meme and Trish! It's not all racing, but it's fun.

So, what has everybody been up to? What do you think of this season? And do you think Jimmie has this thing all wrapped up? Talk to me! I miss you guys.

As always, I swear I'll do my best to update more than I have. Hopefully 2010 brings us a kick ass season that we all want to talk about and we can get back to the good ol' days around ChicksViewVille. Okay? Okay.

Take care and I'll talk to you all soon... especially if you follow me on Twitter!

Long time, no blog...

Wednesday, July 15, 2009
Quick life (over the last month) recap: Still working like crazy, have vacation planned in August. Got to see Dane Cook show in June, put blond highlights in my hair. Saw Harry Potter at midnight screening last night, slept a little and am applying to college once again, to get another degree. So yeah, not much of an excuse, and really it seems like more has happened that has kept me away from ChicksView-ville, but there it is. Now, on with the racing...

I think I'm going to star point this post because there are a few things I want to hit on, and if I don't, I'll write a book, not a post:

* The Jeremy Mayfield Saga: Now this has been going on for a while and I haven't really wanted to talk about it, mainly because I wanted to see how it would play out, and I thought I'd want to write a long, drawn out post about Jeremy and NASCAR's drug policy, or lack thereof. As it turns out, I think I can narrow it down. If Jeremy was on meth, and raced that way, he should never race again. Most of the fault lies with NASCAR though, because for some reason, they think they are above any other professional sports league who must have a drug policy. And not one that reads like: If we're suspicious, we'll test you, otherwise, party on!

If it's true that someone testified that other perscriptions that Jeremy was on could make a false positive, and NASCAR, trying to make itself look good for suspending someone, jumped the gun and announced the suspension without thinking, they should pay Jeremy Mayfield for the looong time. Because he won't get sponsors and he won't get rides. They've ruined him if he's innocent.

What this comes down to is that NASCAR needs a banned substance list, one that everyone can read whenever they want. They should test EVERYONE, and suspend EVERYONE who fails said test. And they need to think before the jump. Because whatever the outcome, NASCAR has been made to look a fool. Again.

Martin Truex, Jr. signs with MWR: I actually think this is an awesome move for Martin. MWR has shown signs of brilliance and is run by Ty Norris, who put DEI on the map back in the day. Plus, Martin has never really had a chance to shine. Even after Dale Jr. left DEI, there was so much... crap, going on there that he never got the chance to show that he can be the face of the company. With NAPA as a sponsor, he'll get to show that. And I think the equipment will be there for him. Good move all around.

Danica visits NASCAR race shops: Anyone who follows me on Twitter knows that I tweeted about this as soon as I heard. The word of the day: Lame. She doesn't want to race 40 weeks a year, she's only won once in her own series, and bottom line, she using NASCAR as a bargaining tool for her new deal in open wheel car. As I Tweeted: If Sam and Dario can't do it, what makes her think she can?

And if you're not following me on Twitter, why not? Go here.

Okay, that's it for today. I hope summer is treating everyone well.

As always, thoughts, comments, concerns and opinions are welcome.

Snoozefest 500...

Tuesday, June 09, 2009
So, shocker. Pocono was boring. I know I saw and heard from a lot of people that said the double file restart rule made it more interesting. That's cool. I think we're grabbing at straws, but whatever floats your boat. Why NASCAR continues to go to Pocono is one of life's mysteries to me. I say we go once and for 400 miles. Lessen the pain, you know?

I appreciate stradegy and all that stuff but it's hard to get excited about fuel mileage races. It's weird how anxious one can get watching leaders race at half throttle for the win, though. In fact, that may have made the race. Which is sad.

Congrats still though, to Tony Stewart, who seems like he's graduated to adulthood and is, in general, being a cool guy. As you all know, I have a love/hate thing with Tony. But I'm happy for him and that whole team.

I guess I should comment on the whole Kyle Busch smashing the trophy thing. Personally, I stood in front of the TV shocked while Kyle smashed away with the guitar. Visions of drivers getting out and taking a bat to the Martinsville clock, or slamming the Daytona 500 trophy to the ground swept through my mind. In simple terms, you don't smash a trophy. You just don't. On top of that, you don't smash something that someone took that much time out of their life to make. It's just not right. Was the idea behind it valid? Sure. Split it up for the team. But you know what? Kyle makes enough money to buy each and every one of those team members their very own guitar. He could have and should have done that.

Honestly, I think Kyle wanted to look like a rockstar. I think he ended up looking like a toddler. Again.

I've also gotten some emails, comments and so on about the Dale Jr. crew chief (or not) situation this week. I think I'm still in wait and see mode. I know a lot of people are wondering if it's just Junior that is that problem. That's valid. I'm not one of those people, but I get it. I think everyone tends to forget the times that when the car has been good, Junior has driven it up front. Hell, there were times in both Dover and Pocono that Junior was the fastest car on the track. He can drive. I also think Lance McGrew could work for Junior, which I wasn't so sure of two weeks ago. I think McGrew damands something of Junior that others haven't been able to get to. He demands information and he gives it as well. That's something that was definitly lacking in the last few years.

In the end, it's all on Junior. As he said in the his pre-race interview on TNT this weekend. And he accepts that. Gracefully. Which is more than can be said for some of the guitar smashing children out there. He'll win again, I don't doubt that. I understand those that do, but I think everyone should remember that he is two weeks into a whole new set-up. McGrew isn't the only new thing. They are throwing stuff at Junior that he's never seen before. Give it time, and if it ends up being Junior's fault, then I'll admit I'm wrong. But not yet.

And in closing, I'm going to admit that I am, in fact, a joiner. I'm now a part of the Twitter Nation. So come follow me. It's not all racing all the time, but I'd like to think that everyone would like to know when I'm headed to the gym. No? Oh... well, I'll think of something.

Thoughts and comments?
