Here we go...
I'll start with my definites, which are David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip. Which leaves one spot and so, so many more candidates. In my mind, that leaves Ned Jarrett, Lee Petty, Dale Inman and Benny Parsons as possible fifth entries. With the late exception of the Wood Brothers... which would be sweet if we could induct them together... I actually think it would be fitting, and much easier on people voting. I think Benny can wait a year or two, mainly because he only has one championship. But in my mind, he's in, just not right now.
So we have two champions who are fathers of champions and a crew chief who helped make the king, The King. Not to mention his championship with Terry Labonte.
Tough call.
I'm going to go with Ned Jarrett though. Followed ever so closely by Inman. Jarrett's championships (2), in the short amount of time he won them (his career only lasted about 12 years, which compared to Petty and Waltrip was short) puts him over the edge for me. Also added into that is his announcing career, being on of the most well-spoken commentators, driver or otherwise, to call a race cements it for me.
So my final picks are:
1. David Pearson
2. Cale Yarborough
3. Bobby Allison
4. Darrell Waltrip
5. Ned Jarrett
So! What do you think? And don't be scared, I was to see some of your picks. Get to it!
Also, I'm starting a new thing where I post some people who are completely worth following on Twitter. We'll start with the obvious: Me, Meme and Trish. And for today we'll go with reporters Marty Smith, Jayski and Jeff Gluck who are my favs for news. That's it for now, but I'll post more next time. Follow us!
